In 1987, Ashbourne saw the opening of Natural Choice.

From the outset this independent enterprise was going to be something different and give everyone a healthier approach to living, including:-

The initial idea of providing wholesome, unadulterated foods, natural remedies, nutritional supplements, environmentally friendly, cruelty free & fair trade products has expanded tremendously.

The importance of personal service and providing information wherever possible has proved to be an essential part of the centre.

As part of our 15th anniversary celebrations at Natural Choice, we commissioned an architectural and historical report of number 24 St Johns St by Barry Lewis from Belper. This has proved to be a fascinating exercise and has uncovered the fact that our building dates back to the late 15th century, earlier that we had been previously told. In fact the last 150years have seen the type of business taken place here come full circle, we discovered that a Mr James Osborne, a pharmacist in Ashbourne from 1870 produced a herbal mixture for the “relief and cure” of epilepsy, actually on the premises of 24 St Johns St, even distributing it worldwide!
